In 2010, the National Labor Relations Board issued a Gissel Bargaining Order, compelling US Foods to recognize Teamsters Local 104 and negotiate due to their anti-union violations of the NLRA. In 2011, the Teamsters and US Foods ratified their first contract, though it did not include Teamster pension or insurance benefits. The fight for better conditions continued in 2015 when workers operated under an expired contract for over a year, while walking off the job seven times due to the Company's attempt to break the group. This culminated in a 2016 strike, where picket lines were extended to Southern California for 4 days. These efforts led to a successor agreement victory that included Teamster insurance for the first time. This drastically reduced the members' cost for insurance and put more of their hard earned wages back in their pockets. By 2020, Teamsters Local 104 secured a third contract during the COVID-19 Pandemic with record wage increases and 100% US Foods paid Teamster insurance, achieved through targeted actions like robo-calling and leafleting US Foods customers. Most recently, in 2023, the Teamsters reached a fourth contract that included the Western Conference Pension. Teamsters Local 104 was the first Local in 20 years to negotiate a new group into this pension plan, and even bigger wage increases than in 2020. This progress reflects years of commitment to improving workers' benefits and job security. The members at US Foods have shown true determination and what it means to be Teamsters. 2023
